IMaintaining a building safely is critical for the life of the building. It is the responsibility of the architect and building owner to factor this into the new build design.
Architects are very good at ensuring that height safety is included in the drawings when applying for consent. The process normally includes providing a PS1, PBI works extensively with the architects to provide this, which includes full documentation of the layout, and the systems, ensuring the systems proposed are suitable for the project and the structure.
In recent months the councils are requesting for the architects to confirm if the fall protection system complies with the building code F4 - Safety from falling.
This is an interesting topic and one that we’ve been talking a lot about with architects and councils in recent months. We caught up with Engineered Systems - Head of Design, Simon Hughes to learn more about the code and how fall protection systems comply with this.
