PROJECT OVERVIEW
Victoria Lane Apartments, completed in March 2023, is Wellington's first base-isolated apartment development located at 161 Victoria Street in the Cuba Quarter. This 16-level building features 123 apartments (typically 1-3 bedrooms) with exceptional seismic resilience comparable to Wellington Hospital and Te Papa, allowing 600mm movement in earthquakes. The property offers residents excellent natural light and panoramic city and harbor views, with ground-floor retail, offices on levels 1-3, and penthouses on the top floors. As the fourth stage of Willis Bond's Cuba Precinct redevelopment, the project was delivered on schedule despite COVID challenges through collaboration between Willis Bond, Athfield Architects, and LT McGuinness. There were a number of other contributors to the project, including the Height Safety Systems (designed, supplied and installed) by Alta Safety, and RoofLogic installing their FiberTite membrane throughout the building exterior.
As the chosen Height Safety partners for Victoria Lane Apartments, Alta Safety designed, supplied and installed a Fall Protection and Abseil System, offering safe fall arrest to the roof, and abseil access to the facade for general maintenance and cleaning. This system was designed to meet the full ASNZS safety standards. Our system chosen consisted of Fall Arrest & Abseil Anchors throughout the roof of the building, alongside a Bomac Altrac Rail System and Altrac Trolleys.
