Project Kelly was an impressive expansion to Auckland Film Studios, a studio founded by Peter Jackson based in the heart of West Auckland. The team here at Alta (previously PBI Height Safety) were delighted to be involved with this project, in part due to the impressive track record of Auckland Film Studios, with titles such as the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and King Kong. Project Kelly represented a significant expansion to the studios, introducing two additional world-class sound stages of 2,000 square metres each. The development presented unique engineering challenges, requiring sophisticated acoustic solutions to manage noise control between the expansive spaces and address vibration issues from the adjacent railway line.
As the chosen Height Safety partners for Project Kelly and Auckland Film Studios, we were tasked with providing safe access to the roof and guttering of these new developments for general maintenance and cleaning. We designed, supplied, installed and certified a Fall Protection System meeting the required ASNZS safety standards. Our system design utilised a compbination of RoofSafe Cable and SafetyLink FrogLink fall arrest anchors. There were a number of other parties involved with bringing this project to life, including Ignite Architects, Haydn & Rollett and RoofLogic, who installed their Ultratherm MSR system throughout the building.
